Janina Ede - Artwork for children's books

Included in the collection are a number of roughs and alternative versions for illustrations in two children's books.


Einar and the Seal

'Einar and Seal' was first published in 1977 by Hambleside.  The author was David George and it was illustrated throughout by Janina Ede. Below are shown the book cover, an interior printed picture and an original artwork alternative for that picture:

Geese

The collection contains a number of largish painted artworks all on the theme of 'geese'. It seems they were intended for publication in the same book and many have notes which include a page number and the words "text below". I have so far had no luck establishing if the book was published. If anyone reading this has more information, feel free to let me know. Below I have shown ten of the more striking pieces. I particularly like the inky woods in pictures 1 and 6.

Janina Ede - Artist's Bibliography

This section is a work in progress. Whilst other posts deal mainly with artworks in the collection this section will attempt to list all of Janina Ede's published output. If I add at least one book a day it should be completed in a year but hopefully it won't take quite that long! Many of the older entries were copied from the list of works listed in Something About the Author Vol.33 (1983). I have subsequently discovered that some of the dates given in that publication were not very accurate. I am trying to correct these as I go along but if anyone notices an incorrect date please let me know.
